Privacy policy
Last updated October 4, 2026. WantMap is run by Digital Tractor LLC ("we").
This policy covers wantmap.com and the WantMap iPhone app. We collect what we need to run your account and your trips, and nothing to sell or to show you ads.
What we collect
- Your account: email address, name, username, and an optional photo and bio. Passwords are stored as secure hashes. If you sign in with Apple or Google we receive a verified email and name from them, never your password.
- What you save and plan: places you save, notes and ratings, trips, days, stops, times, lists, bookings, expenses, polls and RSVPs.
- Traveler details you choose to add to a trip: an age band (not a birthdate), getting-around needs and food preferences. They're used to suggest places that fit your group and are visible to the people on that trip.
- Things you upload: photos for your profile, places and guides.
- Things you import: links you paste and screenshots you upload on the Import page, and the places we find in them. Screenshots are stored privately and deleted once you've saved the places, and within 30 days at most. Places you keep that aren't already on WantMap are private to you, along with the link they came from.
- Location, only when you ask: on the web, when you choose "Use my location"; in the app, if you allow location while it's open. We use it to show what's near you and don't store it.
- Technical data: like any website, our hosting provider processes your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and keep the service secure. The iPhone app sends crash reports so we can fix bugs.
Who sees your information
- People on your trip see the trip, its stops, bookings, expenses, polls and the traveler details on it.
- Anyone with a link you create: a read-only trip link shows the plan (not bookings contacts or expenses). Your personal calendar link shows your stops. Turn links off at any time.
- Everyone: your public profile, and any guides, Walkthroughs and places you publish.
- Service providers that run WantMap for us: Supabase (database and sign-in), Cloudflare (hosting and file storage), and Sentry (app crash reports). Pages load fonts from Google Fonts and map images from OpenFreeMap or our own map server, which see your IP address when your browser requests them.
- When you import a link or screenshot, these providers process it on our behalf. They receive the link or image, never your name, email or account details:
- Anthropic reads the post, page or screenshot to find the places in it. Anthropic doesn't use this data to train its models.
- Apify fetches public Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Threads and YouTube posts.
- Google (the YouTube Data API) fetches public YouTube video details.
- Jina AI fetches other web pages you link to.
- Google Places or OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service receives each place's name and city to put it on the map.
We don't sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use advertising trackers. We don't use product analytics today; if we add them, we'll update this policy first.
Cookies
We use cookies only to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. You can delete your account at any time from your profile, on the web or in the app. That deletes your profile, saves, imports, the trips you organise, your guides and your uploaded photos, except anything we must keep by law. Trips you were invited to belong to their organizer and stay with them, minus your membership. Places you added to WantMap stay, with their photos, but no longer show your name.
To save repeat work, we keep the places found in a public link for up to 90 days and reuse them when anyone imports the same link. That record holds the link and the places, not who imported it.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile and traveler details at any time.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or export any trip as JSON from the trip itself.
- Delete your account yourself from your profile, or ask us to correct or delete your data.
Email privacy@wantmap.com and we'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) you may have additional rights, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
WantMap isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. Trip organizers can add a child's age band to a trip, but never a name you haven't chosen to enter, a birthdate or a photo.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell you in the product before the change takes effect.
